What is ATM dispenser?
An ATM (Automated Teller Machine) dispenser is a crucial component
of an ATM.
1. Function
The dispenser is responsible for dispensing cash to the users. When
a customer requests a cash withdrawal through the ATM interface,
the dispenser mechanism counts out the specified amount of
banknotes and dispenses them through the cash outlet. For example,
if a user requests to withdraw $100 and the ATM is configured to
dispense $20 - bills, the dispenser will count out five $20 - bills
and send them to the customer.
2. Working Mechanism
It typically consists of a set of rollers and motors. The banknotes
are stored in cassettes inside the ATM in an organized manner. When
a withdrawal request is initiated, the dispenser's motors activate
the rollers which pick up the appropriate number of banknotes from
the cassettes. Sensors are used to ensure that the correct number
of notes is dispensed and to detect any jams or misfeeds. If a jam
occurs, the ATM will usually display an error message and stop the
dispensing process until the problem is resolved.
3. Security Features
To prevent unauthorized access and fraud, ATM dispensers have
several security measures. They are usually housed within a secure,
locked enclosure. Anti - skimming devices and shields are often
installed around the cash outlet to prevent criminals from
attaching skimming devices to steal card information and cash.
Additionally, the dispenser is integrated with the ATM's overall
security and authentication system. The ATM will only dispense cash
if the user has provided valid authentication, such as a correct
PIN (Personal Identification Number) and a valid bank card.
